In 2008, The Friends of Fort Dobbs was awarded a grant from the highly coveted Museums for America Program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Through this grant, the Friends were able to retain the services of Bill Haley, an internationally renowned designer, planner and interpreter of historic sites and museums. The work of his team in site development planning, interpretive planning, creation of conceptual drawings for reconstruction and development of interpretive exhibitions has resulted in a 350-page plus Comprehensive Interpretive Plan (CIP). The CIP stands as a master design document to guide the full development of the 31-acre Fort Dobbs site and experience.
The Friends of Fort Dobbs is grateful for the involvement of an esteemed panel of advisors and museum professionals who provided invaluable assistance in guiding this work:
- Dr. Lawrence E. Babits, George Washington Distinguished Professor, Department of History,
East Carolina University
